About This Work

A moment captured in paint. Display it landscape or flip it — it works both ways. [ PLEASE Add to Cart ]

The month before coming home had been full of extremes. Snow in the Caucasus — Georgia, Armenia, cold that settles into your bones. Mountain roads disappearing into white. Then Turkey again, before the flight turned south and everything changed: Bangkok, humid and golden, the heat arriving like a wall the moment the doors opened.

Five countries. Two continents. Winter and tropics, back to back.

And then, home. Which was never really the destination — just the place the ticket ended.

This piece was made in the days after returning. No subject. No sketch. Just the palette knife and a sponge moving through colour — multiple shades of blue and purple, greens, fluorescent pink, sharp yellow — colours bleeding and blending into each other, one shade pulling the next across the canvas. One half of the surface catches the light with a gloss finish; the other pulls it in with a matte. The same painting reads differently depending on where you stand. Some surfaces catch the light; others pull it in. The result is the kind of painting that could only come from someone who had just seen too much of the world to settle on a single shade.

A painting that doesn't depict any one place but somehow holds all of them. The feeling of having seen too much beauty in too short a time, and needing somewhere to put it.
